Experience the Culinary Delights of Northern Spain

Whether you’re into culture, architecture, food or adventure, northern Spain is a must for travellers planning to book Spanish tours this summer.

Spain’s northern coastline is renowned for its epic surf and the vast valleys and gorges of the Picos de Europa mountain range have been thrilling action lovers for years.

However, the region also has a vast array of offerings for those hoping to take life at a slightly slower pace.

According to Nadine Hallak, travel expert at Cheapflights, there are certain areas that are not to be missed by foodies and culture vultures.

She said: “Logrono is the capital of theLa Rioja province in northern Spain, and as well as being well-known as the region that produces Rioja wine it is also a great area for exploring artistic heritage and trying the sumptuous traditional cuisine.”

Perhaps best known for its famous Rioja wine tours, the province is also a food lover’s dream, making the region an ideal destination for gourmet holidays.

As well as producing some of the finest wines in the world, its unique micro climate makes the region ideal for growing fresh market produce including peppers and tomatoes.

Combine a visit to one of Rioja’s endless vineyards with one of a choice of culinary tours for the ultimate gastronomic experience.

For the more intrepid explorer it may be worth making the trip up towards the coast to the bustling city of San Sebastian.

Nadine said: “We’d also recommend San Sebastian for walking trails and traditional Basque country tapas. Santiago de Compostela is an old town with a famous cathedral, which is the final point of The Way of St. James, a walk for pilgrims which runs throughout all of Europe.”

Native San Sebastians will be quick to tell you that Basque food is the best in Spain and visitors would be hard pressed to miss the culinary delight that are Pintxos, or “Basque Tapas”.

These bite-size creations can be found in almost every San Sebastian restaurant and are best enjoyed at the bar accompanied by one of the region’s fine wines.
