Wines from Spain Trade Fair 2013 Old Billingsgate in London

WINES FROM SPAIN ANNOUNCES EXHIBITION LINE-UP

Travellers hoping to experience one of Spain’s unrivalled wine tours this summer can whet their appetite at this year’s Wines from Spain exhibition planned for March 21st 2013.

58 Spanish wine importers will feature at the annual event, held at Old Billingsgate in London.

They will be joined by 30 exporters seeking UK distribution, all first time exhibitors, representing a range of wine-growing regions.

Over 80 different grape varieties will feature in total, from over 60 Denominations of Origin in Spain.

As well as many well-known favourites, exhibitors will also be showcasing exciting new discoveries from less familiar areas of the country.

Maria Jose Sevilla, director of the event, pointed to the reputation boost created by a love of the country’s cuisine, for the continued interest in Spanish wines in the UK.

Spanish wines have grown in recognition in the UK assisted by the popularity of world-renowned Spanish chefs like Ferran Adria and the recent BBC production ‘Rick Stein’s Spain’,” she said.

“This gastronomic link is encouraging consumers to experiment outside Spain’s classic wine regions and discover new indigenous grape varieties from up-and-coming producers.”

Wine lovers who regularly visit the country would be well-advised to include some of these lesser-known regions on their next Spanish wine tours.

Visitors hoping to experience a range of the wines on show can take advantage of the Fast Track Tasting. This special feature includes a self-pour stand offering budding connoisseurs the opportunity to taste one wine from each exhibitor.

Even if you won’t be enjoying any wine holidays this year, Maria Jose Sevilla points out that Britons at home can still enjoy the excellent value-for-money that Spanish wines provide.

“In cash-strapped times, Spain is well positioned to deliver quality wines at all price levels to every sector of the market with crisp whites, fruity rosados, complex reds, unrivalled fortified wines and serious sparkling wines which are competing with international rivals,” she said.
